The kids and I were pretty thrilled to be able to take a photo with the actors of the talchum (Korean Mask Dance Drama) at #hahoevillage I had seen some of these in my childhood and university days but I never understood their meaning and why all the adults around me were laughing so heartily. Mystery solved with this performance which had subtitles behind on the screen. While some of the humour was sexual most of it was situational and completely opposite to the traditional norms of Korean society (ie Respect for one’s elders which was definitely not demonstrated.) All of the actors apart from one woman were male. The male actors also portray (very tall) women. The masks become lifelike in their expressions with the actors dance movements and voices. . . . . . #woman #man #bike #bikes #bicycle #bikelife #cycling #style #stylish #street #attitude #자전거 #チャリ #fit #mum #health #healthy #people #urban #kids #travel #adventure #love #fun #sustainable #andong #korea #drama
The kids and I really enjoyed the talchum (탈춤) at Hahoe Village. They are a series of satirical mask-dance-dramas which are a commentary on the inequality of the social classes. In this one, the butcher acts out the sacrifice of a bull before trying to sell its heart and testicles. Here the bull came to mark it’s territory before it’s time was done! . . . . . #woman #man #bike #bikes #bicycle #bikelife #cycling #urban #style #stylish #street #attitude #자전거 #チャリ #fit #mum #health #healthy #city #people #kids #travel #adventure #love #fun #sustainable #korea #talchum #hahoevillage #탈춤 @koreatourism @hh_mask_museum @hh_mask_museum
We went to the Mask Museum yesterday to understand more about the performance that we were going to see. We all tried on the masks in preparation for the show. Little did I know what was going to happen! . . . . . #woman #man #bike #bikes #bicycle #bikelife #cycling #urban #style #stylish #street #attitude #자전거 #チャリ #fit #mum #health #healthy #city #cities #people #urban #kids #travel #adventure #love #fun #sustainable #andong #hahoevillage #maskdance
Just before we left Andong Station, the chain of my son’s @bykbikes fell off and my daughter and I noticed that the chain guard was broken. I put the chain back on and used some wipes that we had been handed in Seoul. I’ve asked my daughter to stop going off kerbs to avoid pinch flats. I’m riding my @gazellebikes #cityzen with @schwalbetires We have tools, a pump, tubes and repair kit and my kids are the mechanics. We made a quick stop to buy some more water and sunscreen before setting off from Andong Station. It’s been 28C and not a cloud in the sky for the past two days. My goal is to get everyone back to Sydney on the 25th healthy and happy while having fun. . . . . #woman #man #bike #bikes #bicycle #bikelife #cycling #urban #style #stylish #street #attitude #자전거 #チャリ #fit #mum #health #healthy #city #cities #people #urban #kids #travel #adventure #love #fun #sustainable #andong #hahoevillage
Just yesterday we bicycled 30km from Andong Station to Hahoe Village. The kids did really well and we averaged 8-10km per hour. We had to walk up three steep hills which they found disheartening. But with many breaks for water, energy drinks and snacks, they kept going. We saw one long last ascent but it wasn’t ours when we stopped at a water filtration plant only 3.5km away from the village. Because the village is a UNESCO site, there are no restaurants in the village itself. We had to make do with instant ramen, boiled eggs, kimchi, pickles and rice from our gracious host’s mum. (I suffered afterwards and the next morning with salt retention and low blood sugar.) But I had to eat, I was so hungry and had to have enough energy to look after these two. I’m sure there are more luxurious ways to travel but I’m finding this trip very satisfying. . . . . . #woman #bike #bikes #bicycle #bikelife #cycling #urban #style #stylish #street #attitude #자전거 #チャリ #fit #mum #health #healthy #city #cities #people #urban #kids #travel #adventure #love #fun #sustainable #andong #hahoevillage
We went for a stroll at Hahoe Village where we are staying at the Jisan Gotaek house. We missed the cherry blossoms at their height but it seems that that the villagers cultivate cherries here. Beautiful! . . . . . #woman #man #bike #bikes #bicycle #bikelife #cycling #urban #style #stylish #street #attitude #자전거 #チャリ #fit #mum #health #healthy #city #cities #people #urban #kids #travel #adventure #love #fun #sustainable
